If you decide to visit Courmayeur, you can come face-to-face with Mont Blanc thanks to the Mont Blanc cable car, which in a matter of minutes takes you more than 2,000 metres up into the sky. During the journey, which offers eye-popping views of the glaciers and the great summits of the Alps, you can even visit an Alpine botanical garden and an exhibition of Mont Blanc crystals.
Forever associated with Mont Blanc, Courmayeur is one of the historic capitals of mountaineering and mountain hiking. To learn more about the great endeavours that have taken their place in the annals of mountaineering, the "Duca degli Abruzzi" Alpine museum is well worth a visit. There you will find documents, relics and equipment relating to the various famous ascents. The museum is situated within the Guides' House ("Casa delle Guide"), right in the centre of the town, next to the ancient parish church.
